SargasFoam makes molded protective foam from Sargassum seaweed. For electronics, audio and other high-value devices it is developed as a plastic-free alternative to EPS, EPE and PU foam inserts and end caps — protection shaped around the product, without fossil plastic.

What we make for electronics packaging

Material facts (current pilot stage)

Density, high-density grade (SF-F02)≈ 70 kg/m³ (pilot batch, internal measurement)
HardnessComparable to protective EPS in our internal comparison
Bio-based contentAt least 85% by weight (internal testing); EN 16640 certification in progress
HumidityUse inside closed secondary packaging; not yet qualified for high-humidity transit
ESD / antistaticNot tested — no claim. Do not use for ESD-sensitive components without separate ESD packaging
Compression dataAccredited testing being arranged

The right test is the whole package, not the foam alone. We mold an insert around your device or a representative dummy and test it by drop, vibration and compression before any production decision.

Lead times

At the current pilot stage, first custom-molded trial parts are typically ready 2–3 weeks after final CAD approval, and a small validated pilot batch takes 4–6 weeks. Drying and quality control, not pressing, set the pace.

Where SargasFoam stands today

We are at lab and pilot scale in Lithuania and have signed two letters of intent for pilot projects, with a further LOI and an MoU being signed (October 2026). Our first market is premium beauty packaging; electronics pilots are welcome for devices that ship inside closed outer boxes.

Frequently asked questions

Can seaweed foam replace EPS inserts for electronics?

SargasFoam is developed as a plastic-free alternative to EPS and PU foam inserts. The current high-density grade measures about 70 kg/m³, with hardness comparable to protective EPS. Protection depends on device weight and geometry, so each application is validated by drop, vibration and compression tests on the real product.

Is SargasFoam antistatic or ESD-safe?

No. ESD properties have not been tested and no ESD claim is made. ESD-sensitive components need separate ESD packaging.

Is SargasFoam suitable for humid shipping conditions?

Not yet. The material should be used inside closed secondary packaging, protected from condensation and direct water. Moisture-resistant versions are in development.

How fast can we get prototype inserts?

Typically 2–3 weeks after final CAD approval for first molded trial parts, and 4–6 weeks for a small validated pilot batch.
